A US dad was given a 25-year prison term for making his six-year-old son run on a treadmill, which ultimately resulted in the boy’s death. After security camera footage of Christopher Gregor of New Jersey went viral, he gained notoriety as the “treadmill dad.” The footage showed Gregor repeatedly setting his son Corey Micciolo on the machine, ostensibly because he felt the boy was “fat.”
In March 2021, the incident took place at the Atlantic Heights Clubhouse. After becoming ill, Corey was admitted to the hospital and passed away on April 2, 2021.
Gregor was given a 20-year prison term for aggravated manslaughter and a five-year sentence for endangering the welfare of a child on Friday, August 2, by Ocean County judge Guy P. Ryan. The 31-year-old avoided being charged with murder. The judge stated that the sentences will be served concurrently.
The CCTV footage from the clubhouse gym was shown to the jury and was considered important evidence. The video, which quickly gained popularity, demonstrated how Gregor kept putting his son on the treadmill.
The machine moved too quickly, causing Corey to fall. As seen on camera, the unwavering father did nothing except speed up the treadmill.
After learning of the decision, Corey’s mother Breanna Micciolo sobbed, but Gregory kept a straight face.
Gregor was Micciolo’s former lover, and during her victim impact statement, she referred to him as a monster. “Corey has always been my entire universe, my existence, and everything. She sobbed as she told the court, “What this monster did was pathetic, disgusting, and I wish him nothing but the worst.”
However, Gregor persisted in claiming to be innocent. Gregor testified in court prior to receiving his sentence, saying, “I did nothing to cause Corey’s passing.” My son was not injured by me.
Prior to this, the jury had found him guilty of manslaughter but had rejected the murder allegation.
